Pełne okoliczności zbrodni nie są jeszcze znane, lecz według policji strzelanina była wynikiem domowej kłótni. Sprawca został później zastrzelony przez policję podczas pościgu. Łącznie postrzelonych zostało 10 osób, w tym 8 śmiertelnie.
Policja poinformowała, że były trzy miejsca strzelaniny. Pierwsze strzały miały miejsce na ulicy W. 79th, a kolejne na Harrison Street - oba w Shreveport w Luizjanie. Sprawca został zastrzelony przez policję w okolicach parafii Bossier, przy Brompton Lane.
